Instagram media formats at a glance
The dimensions, aspect ratios, and containers Instagram uses across placements. Full breakdown, methodology, and per-format articles are coming to the guides section.
Compiled from Instagram's public Help Center and product documentation, current as of January 2026. Instagram changes these limits without announcement — treat exact figures as approximate until we publish our own measured dataset.
A full reference with per-format articles and measured data is coming to the guides section.

Mechanics
How it works
- 1
You paste a public link
Copy a Reel, post, or video URL from Instagram's Share menu and paste it into the field above.
- 2
A separate server retrieves the file
The request runs on infrastructure kept apart from this site — never through this webpage — and asks Instagram's CDN for the original media.
- 3
Your browser saves it
You get a direct, signed, temporary download link. We don't keep a copy, and no Instagram login is ever requested.

What you can and can't do with a download
A download tool doesn't grant rights — it just moves a file. What you're allowed to do with that file depends on who made it and what they agreed to.
You're covered when
Your own posts: no question at all
Anything you uploaded yourself, you can save and reuse freely, in full quality, at any time.
Permission from the creator: get it in writing
A direct grant — a DM, comment, or email saying it's fine to repost — covers you. Instagram's “Allow sharing to Stories” toggle is not that; it permits an in-app reshare, not redistribution elsewhere.
Before you assume you're covered
Public visibility is not a license
A public account means anyone can view the post inside Instagram. It does not mean anyone may copy the file and republish it — copyright belongs to the creator from the moment they upload it, regardless of caption credit.
Need your own data instead? Use Instagram's export
If you're trying to recover your own uploads, Settings → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information gives you the original files, not a re-encoded copy.
Questions
Frequently asked
What audio quality do I get?
128kbps MP3, extracted directly from the original video's audio track — no re-recording or extra re-encoding beyond that conversion.
Does this work on a photo post?
No — audio extraction needs a video or Reel with a soundtrack. A photo-only post has no audio track to extract.
Is it legal to download Instagram videos?
Downloading your own content, or content you have explicit permission to save, is not a legal problem. Downloading someone else's content and reposting it without permission can infringe their copyright regardless of whether the account is public.
Do I need to log in to my Instagram account?
No. This site never asks for your Instagram credentials and never stores a session. Tools that would require a login to work — stories and highlights — are marked as unsupported instead of faking it.
Will this work on a private account?
No. Private accounts require an authenticated session to view, and we deliberately don't implement Instagram login. Only public posts, Reels, and profiles resolve.
What resolution do I actually get?
Whatever resolution Instagram serves for that specific upload, shown to you before you click download — typically up to 1080p for video. We don't upscale or re-encode; you get the same file Instagram's CDN holds.
Do you store the files I download?
No. Each result links directly to a temporary, signed URL generated for that request. Nothing is cached or archived on our side after the link expires.
Why did my link fail to resolve?
The most common causes are a private account, a deleted or expired post, or a URL copied incorrectly. Status-specific reasons are covered in the guides section.
Can I use this on my phone?
Yes — the tool works in any modern mobile browser on iOS and Android. Where a mobile browser blocks direct downloads, we show a fallback instruction instead of a silent failure.
